Flaming Pie magnet

4 November 2010

Store date: 27 May 1997

This magnet (its actual width is just a hair over 1½ inches) was sent by Capitol Records to promote Paul McCartney’s Flaming Pie album. A look at the album cover below will give you a sense of its visual context.

“Flaming Pie” is also the title of track number seven of fourteen on the album.

The term “flaming pie” is (according to Wikipedia):

a reference to a humorous story John Lennon told journalists in 1961 on the origin of The Beatles’ name when they became newly famous: “I had a vision that a man came unto us on a flaming pie, and he said, ‘You are Beatles with an A.’ And so we were.”

This magnet is currently attached to the door of my refrigerator, because I thought the pie-kitchen connection was wholly appropriate.
