Best of Birmingham (Birmingham Magazine, 2007)

6 January 2011

Store date: September 2007

In the September 2007 issue of Birmingham Magazine, Laser’s Edge was spotlighted among “125 of the best things about the Magic City” (their cover tag line).  It was an honor whenever the local press selected me or my business for recognition, but this selection was different from most.  Instead of the usual “Best Record/CD Store” mantle (those were honorable, too, of course), the entry on page 176 focused on the live music in-stores held on a semi-regular basis.  The text, which I assume was written by magazine editor Carla Jean Whitley, read:

Free “Seating” at a Show

You might have to throw a few elbows to find space, but it’s worth it to attend a musician’s in-store performance at Laser’s Edge in Homewood.  Recognizable acts like Marc Broussard and Pete Yorn stop by in the afternoons prior to their shows elsewhere in town, offering customers an intimate show that can’t be found anywhere else.

Nice!  That is Jay Cortez and Luke Steele of The Sleepy Jackson in the photograph, taken by me.  (Click on the picture twice to see a larger, clearer version.)
